Gretna extended their home winning streak to nine games dating back to last season thanks to a huge performance from Lily Zimmerman. Everything went the Dragons' way against York on Saturday as they made off with a 3-0 win for which the team can thank Zimmerman, who had 18 digs and two assists. She has been hot recently, having posted 12 or more digs the last four times she's played.
The final score came out to 25-15, 25-8, 25-17.
Meanwhile, Waverly got the win against Northwest on Saturday by a conclusive 3-0.
Waverly not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Northwest between 18 and 21 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-21, 25-21.
Gretna better keep an eye on Ansley Real. She was instrumental in Waverly's win, getting ten digs and two aces. That's the most aces Real has posted since back in September.
Waverly was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in four consecutive contests.
Gretna's record is now 27-6. As for Waverly, their record now sits at 29-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Wednesday's match: Gretna has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 6.6 aces per game. However, it's not like Waverly struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.4 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Gretna skirted past Waverly 3-2 when the teams last played back in September. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
