Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

South Mecklenburg lost against Ardrey Kell back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The South Mecklenburg Sabres fell just short of the Ardrey Kell Knights by a score of 72-69. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (65), the Sabres still had to take the loss.

South Mecklenburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Connor Yett, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 17 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Yett a new career-high in steals. Another player making a difference was Ben Houpt, who posted 21 points.

Ardrey Kell's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brett Freeman, who went 7 for 14 en route to 24 points. Bryceton Thomas was another key player, dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards.

South Mecklenburg's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8. As for Ardrey Kell, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-3.

South Mecklenburg won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Olympic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Mecklenburg knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matchups -- so hopefully Olympic likes a good challenge. As for Ardrey Kell, they will also get right back to it: they'll square off against Cuthbertson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cuthbertson will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Ardrey Kell surely won't give up without a fight.
