The Bellevue East Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Gretna Dragons at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Bellevue East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Saturday.
Last Saturday, Bellevue East strolled past Westview with points to spare, taking the game 65-46. The win made it back-to-back wins for Bellevue East.
Bellevue East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamyla Gilmore, who scored 18 points along with five blocks. Another player making a difference was Brani Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten steals.
Meanwhile, Gretna came up short against Lewis Central on Monday and fell 44-31. While losing is never fun, Gretna can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 162nd in Nebraska, while Lewis Central is ranked 37th in Iowa).
Ava Boyce put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored nine points.
Bellevue East has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. As for Gretna, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost 11 of their last 13 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Bellevue East took their victory against Gretna when the teams last played back in December of 2023 by a conclusive 82-62. Will Bellevue East repeat their success, or does Gretna have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
