Baseball Recap: Gulf Shores Comes Up Short

Gulf Shores lost against McGill-Toolen on Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Dolphins took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Yellowjackets. The Dolphins have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

John Luke Stephens put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Stephens was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Stephens wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jacob O'Bryan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4. Gulf Shores is 7-2 when O'Bryan posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

Gulf Shores' loss dropped their record down to 15-11. As for McGill-Toolen, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf Shores will square off against St. Paul's Episcopal at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Saints' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Dolphins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for McGill-Toolen, they will take on Baldwin County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
