University Prep is 0-3 against Green Tech since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The University Prep Griffins will be staying on the road to face off against the Green Tech Eagles at 2:30 p.m. on January 13th. University Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matchups -- so hopefully Green Tech likes a good challenge.
Even though Rochester Academy scored an imposing 60 points on Thursday, University Prep still came out on top. University Prep took their matchup against Rochester Academy 70-60. Given University Prep's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 167th, while Rochester Academy is ranked 591st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
University Prep can attribute much of their success to Alex Webb, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Gavin White, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that White pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jermelle Cotton, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Green Tech pushed their score all the way to 65 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 66-65 to Cardinal Hayes. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their last game last Wednesday (60), Green Tech still had to take the loss.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Haisi Mayben, who scored 15 points along with six assists and three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Indavier Barnes, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
University Prep's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3. As for Green Tech, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
Things could have been worse for University Prep, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 65-47 loss to Green Tech in their previous meeting back in December of 2022. Can University Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
