The East Carteret Mariners had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Havelock 77-49 on the road. That 77-49 margin sets a new team best for East Carteret this season.
East Carteret was led to victory by Shamel Baker and Charles Matheka. Baker scored 26 points along with eight assists and four steals, while Matheka scored 24 points along with eight assists and eight rebounds. The contest was Baker's ninth in a row with at least ten points. Sean Walker was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds.
East Carteret's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5. As for Havelock, their loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Carteret will be home for the holidays to greet Epiphany at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday. Epiphany will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 587th, while East Carteret is ranked 232nd). As for Havelock, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on West Carteret at 8:00 p.m. on December 20th.
