The Columbus Discoverers pushed their score all the way to 62 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 81-62 to Kearney. Columbus has not had much luck with Kearney recently, as the team's come up short the last seven times they've met.
Loss or not, Columbus got some senior leadership from Tanner Esch who scored 16 points along with eight assists and Griffin Micek who scored 21 points. Micek scored a full 33.9% of Columbus' points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jose Garcia, who scored nine points.
Even though they lost, Columbus were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Asher Endorf was his usual excellent self, scoring 25 points along with three steals for Kearney. Those 25 points set a new season-high mark for Endorf. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Webber, who scored 17 points.
Columbus' loss was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points per game. As for Kearney, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Columbus has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Lincoln Northeast at 7:00 p.m. on December 15th. Lincoln Northeast knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Columbus likes a good challenge. Kearney will be home for the holidays to greet Omaha Northwest at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday.
