Hancock is on a four-game streak of home losses, Union a 12-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The two teams will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Hancock pushed their score all the way to 84 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Turkeyfoot Valley Area at home by a decisive 98-84 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Hancock in their matchups with Turkeyfoot Valley Area: they've now lost nine in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jacob Anderson, who scored 18 points along with two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Demory, who scored nine points along with ten assists and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Union suffered a tough 60-37 defeat at the hands of East Hardy two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, Union can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while East Hardy is ranked 16th).
Hancock's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Union, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season.
Hancock didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Union in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, but they still walked away with a 69-65 win. Will Hancock repeat their success, or does Union have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
