The Trimble County Raiders are taking a road trip to face off against the Spencer County Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Trimble County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Trimble County needed a bit of extra time to put away Carroll County. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Panthers 9-8.
Hannah Chilton was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Savannah Oldson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Shelby Wright, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Spencer County posted their closest victory since April 15, 2024 on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out Fairdale 12-11. The win continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won three in a row.
Spencer County got a massive performance out of Kaylen Newton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Haylee Piercy also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Spencer County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive contests.
Spencer County now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Trimble County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Trimble County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Spencer County struggles in that department as they've averaged .363. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Trimble County's way against Spencer County in their previous matchup back in March, as Trimble County made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
