The Tupelo Christian Prep Eagles will face off against the Calhoun City Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Tupelo Christian Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They blew past Potts Camp 58-8. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 50-0.
Sawyer Malone continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 128 yards and four scores on only eight carries. Another player making a difference was Nathan Cornelison, who gained 43 total yards and two touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Tupelo Christian Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 244 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
Another reason for the win was Tupelo Christian Prep's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for 6.5 sacks. Rylan Thomas refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making eight total tackles.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Calhoun City challenged French Camp Academy on Friday. The Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Panthers 50-7. The victory was nothing new for the Wildcats as they're now sitting on six straight.
Tupelo Christian Prep better focus on containing Harland Pittman and Dereon Mays as the pair were huge in Calhoun City's win. Pittman threw for 143 yards and three touchdowns while completing 81.8% of his passes, while Mays rushed for 69 yards and a pair of TDs. Those three passing touchdowns gave Pittman a new career-high.
Tupelo Christian Prep's win bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Calhoun City, their victory bumped their record up to 9-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Tupelo Christian Prep has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 197.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Calhoun City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 191.7 rushing yards.
