Football Recap: Wiregrass Ranch Comes Up Short

Wiregrass Ranch and Palmetto squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Wiregrass Ranch had to settle for second. They and the Tigers were almost perfectly matched up, but they suffered a 42-41 loss. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game back in October (34), the Bulls still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Wiregrass Ranch saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Daniel Terry threw for 382 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 76 yards. Terry has become a key player for the Bulls: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 2-5 otherwise. Cedric King was in the mix as well, providing Wiregrass Ranch with two TDs.

Even if they lost, Wiregrass Ranch's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Donte Parker, Justyn Semczuk, and Carson Kantor, who each picked up one sack apiece. Wiregrass Ranch got some further help from Parker: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made 11 total tackles.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Palmetto to victory, but perhaps none more so than Matthew Hennesey, who threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.2% of his passes. Those 306 passing yards gave Hennesey a new career-high. Nazir Pitchford was Hennesey's top target, picking up 125 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Wiregrass Ranch now has a losing record of 5-6. As for Palmetto, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home.

Wiregrass Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Palmetto, they will host Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Mustangs have now posted at least 31 points in their last five games.
