IV Section II recap October 1, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sahuarita, who defeated 81st ranked Safford, 33-21. Rocko Vega threw for 223 yards and 3 touchdowns and ran for 18 yards in the win.
Rio Rico and Santa Rita played the closest game in IV Section II this week, with Rio Rico eventually emerging with a 34-28 victory. John Brewington ran for 122 yards during the win.
The Mustangs' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Olen Brown contributed 126 yards. Kayden Bedolla helped Sahuarita's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 37 yards.
Brown was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 126 yards on 19 carries as Sahuarita beat the Bulldogs. Teammate Geovan Neuser added to the ground attack by rushing for 88 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, David Rodriguez's team's Vega and Fragoso have proven to be a lethal combination. Vega has thrown for 836 yards this season, while Fragoso, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 34 catches for 603 yards. Tony Villa from Amphitheater leads the league in rushing with 674 yards.
As it stands, the Mustangs are in third, while the Hawks are in first.
The league will see a high scoring game when Sahuarita and Rio Rico face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Mustangs comes in having scored 160 this season, while Kevin Kuhm's team has scored 153. Sahuarita scored 33 points last week as it defeated Safford.
The Hawks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,750 from 8,811. The improvement was largely due to a 34-28 victory over the Eagles last week.
