It was a good run, but the Hueytown Golden Gophers unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Monday. They received a tough blow as they fell 82-63 to Gardendale. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Golden Gophers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Braylon Patton, who scored 21 points. Patton scored a full 33.3% of Hueytown's points, the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trip Harris, who scored 15 points.
Hueytown's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7. As for Gardendale, their victory bumped their record up to 7-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hueytown won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Oak Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on December 19th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Oak Mountain is ranked 58th, while Hueytown is ranked 69th). Gardendale will be home for the holidays to greet Calera at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Calera is hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
