Basketball Recap: Fort Wayne Northrop Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Northrop's game on Saturday was all tied up 23-23 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 51-35 bruising from the Whitko Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bruins of the 69-64 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January.

Despite the loss, Fort Wayne Northrop still got an impressive performance from Swynn Jackson, who posted 17 points and six rebounds. The contest was Jackson's fourth in a row with at least 17 points. Khala Williams-Thomas was another key player, putting up eight points and eight boards.

Reese Stonebraker had another great game (as she tends to do), dropping a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds for Whitko. Stonebraker is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 13 games she's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Kyra Lowe, who shot 43% from the field en route to 12 points and six boards.

Fort Wayne Northrop's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Whitko, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Fort Wayne Northrop will challenge DeKalb at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins will need to watch out since the Barons have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Whitko, they will take on East Noble at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
