The Hawkinsville Red Devils won the last time they faced the Wheeler County Bulldogs, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Hawkinsville had just enough and edged Wheeler County out 55-53. The win was all the more spectacular given Hawkinsville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 310th, while Wheeler County is ranked 152nd).
Leading Hawkinsville to victory were Bryson Singletary and Darius Anderson. Singletary scored 16 points along with three steals, while Anderson dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. Anderson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Nieem Blair was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Hawkinsville and bumps their season record up to 6-3. As for Wheeler County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hawkinsville will take on Marion County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wheeler County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bacon County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
