For the second straight game, Sierra will face off against Minarets. The Chieftains will host the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sierra is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.

Sierra fell victim to Minarets and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 13-0 to the Mustangs. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Chieftains, who until this game were averaging 4.06 runs allowed.

For Minarets' part, Jamie Spurgeon made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Spurgeon has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Torin Wolf was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Hayden Micheletti, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.

Minarets always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .581. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sierra only posted an OBP of .200.

Minarets' victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sierra has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Minarets struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
