5A Region 4 recap November 13, 2013
Homewood was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after defeating Russell County. The Patriots came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 31 last week.
Adding to the longest winning streak in 5A Region 4 this week, Briarwood Christian beat Eufaula 32-15. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Lions.
Walker Lott and Victor Jerald gave Briarwood Christian a balanced attack in passing and rushing last week. Lott threw for 90 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Jerald ran for 128 yards. Teammate Lott added to the ground attack by rushing for 97 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Carson Griffis and Walter Rutledge, Homewood has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Griffis is tops in the league in passing with 1,253 yards, while Rutledge has rushed for 1,263 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Fred Yancey's team's Braden Housel, with 515 yards on 43 catches.
Sylacauga moved up to 107 from 135 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Aggies were able to move up by beating Valley 27-18.
