The GVCS Broadfording Lions's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their third straight loss. They were outmatched by Musselman at home and fell 75-34. While losing is never fun, GVCS Broadfording can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 239th in Maryland, while the Applemen are ranked 19th in West Virginia).
Despite the loss, GVCS Broadfording still got an impressive performance from Jordan Shifler, who scored 19 points along with three blocks. That was a full 55.9% of GVCS Broadfording's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
GVCS Broadfording struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Musselman pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Musselman's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Matthew Mahood led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Troy Woolaston, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
GVCS Broadfording's loss dropped their record down to 5-18. As for Musselman, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-4.
GVCS Broadfording won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Heritage Academy will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Musselman will take on the Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
