After a string of five wins, the Ida Baker Bulldogs's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell to Gateway Charter 44-40.
Ida Baker's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Maia Berdebes, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Julianna Nieves was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Gateway Charter got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Katelyn Rosario out in front who scored 15 points. That's the first time this season that Rosario scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lizy Mendez, who scored ten points.
Ida Baker's defeat ended a 14-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for Gateway Charter, they pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Ida Baker will take on Mariner at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Mariner will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 555th, while Ida Baker is ranked 232nd). As for Gateway Charter, they will head out on the road to face off against Neumann at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Neumann is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 58.1 points per game.
