The Columbus Discoverers lost against the Grand Island Islanders back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Columbus took a hard 54-39 fall against Grand Island. Columbus has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Columbus' lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Caden Kapels, who scored 10 points along with 6 rebounds. Tanner Esch was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 4 steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Grand Island to victory, but perhaps none more so than Babur Choul, who scored 13 points along with 5 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan McDonald, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds.
Columbus' loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Grand Island, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Columbus will square off against Bellevue East on Thursday. Hopefully Bellevue East focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Saturday. As for Grand Island, they will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln Southwest at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lincoln Southwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Saturday.
