The Romeo Bulldogs will square off against the Algonac Muskrats at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Romeo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Romeo needed a bit of extra time to put away Port Huron Northern. They had just enough and edged out the Huskies 9-8. Winning may never get old, but the Bulldogs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Katie Murphy spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sarah Jesperson was a standout: she got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Helena Murphy was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Algonac fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against North Branch on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 5-2 to the Broncos. The Muskrats' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Algonac also let their pitcher toss all eight innings and she was also dialed-in: Morgan Reams gave up three earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, Jaycee Reams made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Ava Murray, who went 1-for-3 with one triple.
Romeo pushed their record up to 12-6 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Algonac, they now have a losing record of 9-10-1.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Romeo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Algonac struggles in that department as they've averaged .329. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Romeo couldn't quite finish off Algonac in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 3-1. Will the Bulldogs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
