The Gulf Shores Dolphins will take on the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gulf Shores is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Gulf Shores had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Robertsdale on Thursday. Everything went Gulf Shores' way against Robertsdale as Gulf Shores made off with a 19-11 victory. The Dolphins have beaten the Golden Bears the last seven times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Golden Bears has come to flipping the script.

Jacob O'Bryan was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, three doubles, and four RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Gulf Shores' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Tres Moore, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Gulf Shores was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robertsdale only posted a batting average of .226.
Meanwhile, Mortimer Jordan gave up the first runs last Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Jasper by a score of 8-4.
The team relied heavily on John Owen Dean, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryce Funderburk, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Mortimer Jordan is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. Gulf Shores' win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Gulf Shores' speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. Gulf Shores has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Mortimer Jordan, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gulf Shores continue to outrun the ball?
Gulf Shores was able to grind out a solid victory over Mortimer Jordan when the teams last played back in March of 2024, winning 3-0. Will Gulf Shores repeat their success, or does Mortimer Jordan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
