The Woodland Wildcats will challenge the Dalton Catamounts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Dalton took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Woodland, who comes in off a win.
Woodland played in-conference for the first time on Friday and got just the result they were looking for. They strolled past Cedartown with points to spare, taking the game 28-14. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but the Wildcats were the (much) better team in the second half.
Woodland found their leader in sophomore Solomon James, who rushed for 126 yards, and also picked up 68 receiving yards.
Woodland didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Cedartown to a completion percentage of just 50%. The Wildcats have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.58 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.58 in their last three games.
Meanwhile, Dalton managed to keep up with Cass until halftime last Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Catamounts took a blow against the Colonels, falling 48-16. While losing is never fun, the Catamounts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 219th, while the Colonels are ranked 64th).
Woodland will need to focus on slowing down Caine Woods, one of several Dalton players who made an impact when they last played. He threw for 259 yards and two TDs, and also rushed for 41 yards. Kamdon London was another key player, picking up 121 receiving yards and one score.
The victory made it two in a row for Woodland and bumps their season record up to 2-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 17 points in those games. As for Dalton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.
Woodland came out on top in a nail-biter against Dalton when the teams last played back in November of 2024, sneaking past 20-17. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Catamounts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
