San Pasqual Valley is 0-6 against Antelope since October of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will head out to challenge the Rams at 7:00 p.m.
On Thursday, San Pasqual Valley was just a hair shy of victory and fell 21-20 to Heritage Academy. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 1029th in California, while the Heroes are ranked 215th in Arizona).
Despite the defeat, San Pasqual Valley got top-tier performance from Alex Acuna, who rushed for 148 yards and one TD while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Acuna also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up a sack, making 11 total tackles (2.0 for loss), and defending one pass.
Even if they lost, San Pasqual Valley's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Alonso Ramos was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Antelope). They strolled past Highland Prep West with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 27-13. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rams.
Antelope's win came from a few key players San Pasqual Valley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Luis Guzman, who picked up 172 receiving yards and one touchdown. Trane Figueroa was another key player, having thrown for 387 yards and three touchdowns.
Antelope didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Madden Martin and Antonio Luna. Antelope received some extra help from Figueroa, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Antelope picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 3-4. As for San Pasqual Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
San Pasqual Valley was dealt a bruising 45-0 defeat at the hands of Antelope in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
