After a string of three wins, the Elkton Golden Elks's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 41-40 to Bel Air. While losing is never fun, Elkton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Bobcats are ranked 109th).
Several Golden Elks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was LeeAnn Pugh, who scored 12 points. Another player making a difference was Paige Beougher, who scored nine points.
Elkton's loss was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Bel Air, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season.
Elkton won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Dragons at 3:30 p.m. on January 30th. As for Bel Air, they will square off against the Mariners at TBD on Monday.
