4A Region III District 23 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Foster moved up to 334 from 370 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region III District 23. The Falcon were able to make the jump by beating George Ranch 15-14.
Brazosport took down Bay City 52-34 last week, the largest margin of any game. Emond Hobbs threw for 158 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 83 yards in the win.
Larry Cunningham was the best wideout in the league this week as the Black Cats lost to the Exporters. Cunningham racked up two receptions for 63 yards. Chance Muskiet helped Bay City's passing attack out by catching two balls for 41 yards.
Keshon Leonard was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 188 yards on 29 carries as Lamar Consolidated fell to Brazosport. Teammate Darius Turner added to the ground attack by rushing for 14 yards.
Eric Jones made the biggest impact on defense this week as Foster defeated George Ranch. The 6-foot-1 senior grabbed one interception and recorded one fumble.
5-foot-10 quarterback Hobbs of Ben Rudolph's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 733. He has also thrown eight touchdowns. On the ground, the Mustangs' Leonard has rushed for 664 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Jalyn Judkins. The Angleton star has 11 catches for 261 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Angleton takes on Lamar Consolidated. At the moment, the Wildcats are in second, while Ronald Patton's team is in fifth.
Mark Wiatrek's team and Ricky Tullos's team played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Mark Wiatrek's team eventually emerging with a 15-14 victory. Hasan Rizvi threw for 160 yards and one touchdown and ran for 12 yards in the win.
