North Wilkes (Hays, N.C.) beat Alleghany (Sparta, N.C.) 48-7 while riding the arm of
LJ Hendren, who tossed six touchdown passes.
After taking the lead on a Hendren touchdown pass to
Josh Martin in the first quarter, the Vikings were up 21-7 at the half.
North Wilkes grew its lead to 34 points entering the fourth quarter. NW scored three times in the third, including once on a touchdown pass by Hendren to
Devin Roberts.
Hendren was the top performer for the Hays school. The senior quarterback threw six touchdowns. He has now scored eight touchdowns on the season.
Alleghany's only touchdown came on a 9-yard run by Logan Allen in the second quarter.
The Vikings came in allowing an average of 28.5 points per game this season.
A 42-19 North Wilkes victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
The defeat comes as a step back for Alleghany, who notched a 40-28 victory over East Wilkes in its previous outing. The win brought North Wilkes' winning streak to four games.
North Wilkes (6-1) will play a 2A/1A Conference 6 game against Starmount next week, while Alleghany (3-4) will take on Wilkes Central also in a 2A/1A Conference 6 game.
