There's no place like home for the Tupper Lake Lumberjacks, who bounced back after a tough loss on the road last Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 67-52 victory over Colton-Pierrepont on Monday. Given Tupper Lake's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Colton-Pierrepont is ranked 635th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tupper Lake's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Michael Corneau, who shot 7-for-10 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 27 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Corneau pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 assists.
Loss or not, Colton-Pierrepont got some senior leadership from Eric Friedel and Nate Smith. Friedel scored 24 points along with five rebounds, while Smith. scored eight points along with 14 rebounds. That was a full 46.2% of Colton-Pierrepont's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cody Trimm, who scored seven points.
Tupper Lake pushed their record up to 11-3 with that win, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Colton-Pierrepont, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tupper Lake won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Brushton-Moira at 7:15 p.m. on January 30th. Brushton-Moira and Tupper Lake are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Colton-Pierrepont, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Madrid-Waddington at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Madrid-Waddington has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
