The North Judson-San Pierre Bluejays were the 59-52 winner over the Pioneer Panthers when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. North Judson-San Pierre fell to the Panthers 45-40.
North Judson-San Pierre lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cailyn Tunis, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Tunis has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kyleigh Lehiy, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and five steals.
Even though they lost, North Judson-San Pierre smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pioneer only pulled down an offensive rebound.
Pioneer's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Makenna Strycker, who scored 15 points along with five assists and five steals. Strycker is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Mia McKaig was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
North Judson-San Pierre's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Pioneer, their victory bumped their record up to 7-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Judson-San Pierre will take on the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Triton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Pioneer, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. West Central is looking to tack on another W to their five-game streak on the road.
