The St. Paul Lutheran Giants lost against the Viburnum Blue Jays on December 4th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. St. Paul Lutheran fell 41-34 to Viburnum. St. Paul Lutheran has not had much luck with Viburnum recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite the defeat, St. Paul Lutheran had strong showings from Mia Sherrill, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Valarie Govero, who scored three points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Sherrill scored a full 44.1% of St. Paul Lutheran's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Josie Berkery was another key contributor, scoring six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
St. Paul Lutheran has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Viburnum, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
St. Paul Lutheran will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Crystal City at 11:30 a.m. on December 28th. Crystal City comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last seven games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Viburnum will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Eagle Ridge Christian at 5:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Eagle Ridge Christian's defense has only allowed 27.5 points per game this season, so Viburnum's offense will have their work cut out for Viburnum.
