St. Edmund is 0-9 against Catholic of Pointe Coupee since October of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Fighting Blue Jays will be playing at home against the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
St. Edmund's offense will try to repeat the strong performance it gave on Friday, when they got past Sacred Heart's usually-dominant defense. The Fighting Blue Jays put the hurt on the Trojans with a sharp 58-36 victory. The Fighting Blue Jays haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
St. Edmund's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Wyatt Dubois led the charge by rushing for 92 yards and three touchdowns on only nine carries. Dubois' longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another back making a difference was Nathan Driggs, who rushed for 103 yards and a pair of TDs.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Edmund was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 285 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, Catholic of Pointe Coupee was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Berchmans Academy 43-7. Given the Hornets' advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Saints are ranked 307th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
St. Edmund better focus on containing Myka Nippl and Jude Morrison as the pair were huge in Catholic of Pointe Coupee's win. Nippl rushed for 85 yards and one score, while Morrison threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Morrison didn't just play on offense: he also made two total tackles and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kooper Burke and Morrison. Morrison got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Catholic of Pointe Coupee's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for St. Edmund, their win bumped their record up to an identical 6-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. St. Edmund has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 211.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Catholic of Pointe Coupee struggles in that department as they've been averaging 192 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
St. Edmund came up short against Catholic of Pointe Coupee in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 26-22. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Morrison, who rushed for 144 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also threw for 119 yards and one touchdown on only ten passes.
