You might not recognize the power rankings this week after a busy last week rearranged the teams a whole lot. A special shoutout goes to St. Pius X's senior Grant Gunnell, who scored six total touchdowns in the team's most recent match.
Welcome
The MaxPreps rankings indicated that Westfield would come out the decided victor last week, and the rankings were spot on. It picked up a decisive 'W' against Alief Taylor, finishing up at 53 - 6. No one had a larger role in the success than senior Ra'Quon Washington, who brought his A game into the contest. He threw for 140 yards and three touchdowns. Thanks to its success, Westfield cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 21st spot.
Can't Touch This
Katy got a 31 - 28 win over Atascocita last week, and a key reason for the win was senior Deondrick Glass. Glass ran for 397 yards and also punched in two touchdowns. That performance made Glass one of the best players in the power rankings last week.
No Stoppin 'Em
St. Pius X managed to bank 338 more yards than its opponent La Marque last week, and going the extra distance paid off. Everything went St. Pius X's way against La Marque as it secured a 65 - 21 win. One star in particular for St. Pius X was senior Grant Gunnell, who tossed the ball for 388 yards and six TDs. At 86 total points, this was the highest scoring power ranking game of the week.
Next Week's Big Game
The big showdown in the power rankings this week is between Coppell (20th in the power rankings) and Allen (1st). The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games. Don't be surprised if the score for this one pushes triple digits as Coppell and Allen both racked up points last week.
