Basketball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Comes Up Short

If Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was feeling good fresh off their 70-15 takedown of Windsor on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints took an 89-81 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Virginia Episcopal School Bishops on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (70), the Saints still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Noah Cannon went 10 for 23 on his way to 30 points and seven rebounds. Those 30 points set a new season-high mark for Cannon. Howard Casterlow was another key player, putting up eight points along with nine rebounds and five assists.

Virginia Episcopal School was led to victory by Kaloyan Kolev and Ryan Briggs. Kolev dropped a double-double on 28 points and 12 boards, while Briggs dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyan Nkangwen, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy dropped their record down to 2-2 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Virginia Episcopal School, their record is now 3-4.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 89-64 defeat against Virginia Academy on the 8th. As for Virginia Episcopal School, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, an 87-45 win against Life Christian Academy on the 8th.
