Volleyball Recap: Academy of International Studies' Run of Seven Straight Wins Now Over

If Academy of International Studies was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Weaver on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Dragons fell just short of the Sports & Medical Sciences Academy Tigers by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The Dragons' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Academy of International Studies sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-10.

Academy of International Studies' loss came despite strong showings from Angie Zuluaga- Gonzalez and Lisa Weinberg. Zuluaga- Gonzalez had 31 digs, while Weinberg had six aces and four digs. Weinberg is crushing it when it comes to aces: she's served at least two every time she's taken the court this season.

Sports & Medical Sciences Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Chantel Ramos, who had 11 digs and four aces. Those 11 digs gave Ramos a new career-high.

Academy of International Studies' loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Sports & Medical Sciences Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
