Ketcham is 8-2 against Arlington since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Storm will venture away from home to face off against the Admirals at 4:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Ketcham comes in on 11 and Arlington on four.
Ketcham is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Clarkstown North with a sharp 19-2 win on Saturday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Maddie Perez spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caylee Overton, who got a hit. Another player making a difference was Ella Thyrre, who got a hit.
Ketcham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of 2.250. The last time their OBP was this high was was before the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Arlington hadn't done well against John Jay recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Admirals narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Patriots 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Admirals have posted since April 10th.
Not much got past Sam Harris, who gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks to keep John Jay off the board. Harris has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Arlington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Suozzo, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Suozzo has snagged this season.
Ketcham pushed their record up to 12-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Arlington, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-7.
Arlington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Ketcham has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .517. It's a different story for Arlington, though, as they've only averaged .362. Will they be able to contain Ketcham's hitters?
Ketcham came out on top in a nail-biter against Arlington in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Storm since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
