Roxana has gone a perfect 3-0 against Marquette Catholic recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Shells will venture away from home to take on the Explorers at 7:00 p.m. Roxana will be strutting in after a win while Marquette Catholic will be coming in after a loss.
Roxana's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They breezed past East Alton-Wood River to the tune of 55-0. The game marked the Shells' most dominant victory of the season.
Roxana found their leader in sophomore Mekhi Shorter, who rushed for 102 yards. Shorter showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 53 yards.
Roxana was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 426 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 231 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Roxana didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Dalton Carriker, Jordan Roach, and Keelan Crawford picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, Marquette Catholic lost to Hayti on the road by a 32-14 margin on Saturday.
Although Marquette Catholic took the loss, they still got scores from Don'tay Longstreet and Jhordyn Croft.
Marquette Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Roxana, their win bumped their record up to an identical 5-3.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Roxana has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 325.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Marquette Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging 208 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Roxana against Marquette Catholic in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 42-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Shells since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
