The Brunswick Pirates had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Tuesday. They strolled past Effingham County with points to spare, taking the game 74-56. Given Brunswick's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 105th, while the Rebels are ranked 440th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brunswick found their leader in underclassman Jakai Alston, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Alston has scored all season. Shania Jones was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Despite the loss, Effingham County still got an impressive performance from Kyjana Jordan, who scored 31 points along with six steals. That was a full 55.4% of Effingham County's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ansleigh Giordano, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Brunswick is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. As for Effingham County, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brunswick will square off against the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Grovetown focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Tuesday. As for Effingham County, they will head out on the road to square off against the Terrors at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Glynn Academy's favor as the team sits on five straight wins at home while the Rebels have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
