Baseball Recap: Five Straight Home Wins for Iroquois West

After losing to Momence the last time they met, Iroquois West decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Momence Athletics 12-11 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Raiders have posted against the Momence Athletics since April 18, 2018.

Julian Melgoza and Rylan Pheifer did most of the damage at the plate: Melgoza scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Pheifer scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Those four runs gave Pheifer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ivan Ontiveros, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Iroquois West's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Momence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Iroquois West will head out to take on Manteno at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Momence, they will head out on the road to face off against Cissna Park at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Momence Athletics are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
