The Patrick Henry Rebels will venture away from home to challenge the Honaker Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Patrick Henry has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Patrick Henry is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Chilhowie on Tuesday. They came up short against the Warriors, falling 19-2. The Rebels have struggled against the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Patrick Henry saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brianna Garrison, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Honaker). They put the hurt on Holston with a sharp 19-5 win on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Tigers with their most commanding win of the season.
Gracie Shelton made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Shelton was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cadence Rose, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Peyton Marshall was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.
Honaker is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Patrick Henry, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Patrick Henry skirted past Honaker 9-8 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
