Kassidy King made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
In other batting news, Lola Carson and Kaimana Coleman did most of the damage at the plate: Carson earned two runs and two stolen bases, while Coleman went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Coleman a new career-high.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last three times Torrey Pines and La Costa Canyon have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Wednesday. The Falcons won by a run and slipped past the Mavericks 5-4.
Riley Cullivan spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sofia Calderon was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Mina Crouch, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Torrey Pines' victory bumped their record up to 10-8-1. As for Sage Creek, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 9-12.
