The Quincy Trojans will challenge the Yerington Lions at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Quincy managed to slip by Pershing County the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Trojans came up short against the Mustangs on Friday, falling 8-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Trojans couldn't push the score so high this time.
TY Vert was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched.
At the plate, Quincy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lincoln Brown, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, while Yerington put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Sparks. The Lions put the hurt on the Railroaders with a sharp 16-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.
Erick Juarez made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Yerington got a big performance out of Colby Rowe, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Ruben Jimenez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Quincy's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Yerington, their record is now 2-0.
