Loudoun County extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 8-2. They put the hurt on the Loudoun Valley Vikings with a sharp 12-2 victory. The Captains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.
Keira Bertoglio made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Loudoun County got a massive performance out of Carissa Keefer, who went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave Keefer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Elmore, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Loudoun County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive games.
As for Loudoun Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.
On Loudoun Valley's side, Campbell Reich was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Looking ahead, Loudoun County will face off against Freedom at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Captains' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Loudoun Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Broad Run at 6:30 p.m.
