Basketball Recap: Mater Dei Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Marquette Catholic wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Mater Dei, they should've done a better job of containing Gavin Peppenhorst. The Knights secured a 47-43 W over the Explorers on Saturday thanks in part to Peppenhorst, who went 8-for-18 en route to 25 points and five rebounds. The game was his fifth in a row with at least 16 points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Reynolds, who posted seven points and five boards. He has also also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 56% every time he's hit the court this season.

The win made it two in a row for Mater Dei and bumps their season record up to 2-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.5 points over those games. As for Marquette Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Mater Dei will venture away from home to challenge Highland at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Marquette Catholic, they will head out to take on Maryville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup will give the Explorers their first taste of in-conference action this season.
