After each having a week off, the Savannah Country Day Hornets and the Mount Vernon Mustangs will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 2:00 p.m. on the 14th. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Savannah Country Day had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 23-point drubbing they dealt Vidalia on Friday. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 35-12 margin over the Indians. That 23 point margin sets a new team best for the Hornets this season.

Thomas Holland produced another solid performance rushing for 137 yards and five touchdowns, while also picking up 39 receiving yards. Those five rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Peyton Bean did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 82 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Mount Vernon entered their tilt with Mount Paran Christian on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 35-14 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won four contests by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
A big part of Mount Vernon's win came down to the chemistry between Keon Clealand and his top target Taurean Rawlins. Clealand rushed for 70 yards and one score on only nine carries while Rawlins gained 146 total yards and four touchdowns. Rawlins' receiving production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 100 receiving yards.
Mount Vernon was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 253 rushing yards. They are a perfect 4-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Mount Vernon's defense and their four sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ethan Siggers, Coleson Quesinberry, and Rigby Anderson, who each picked up one sack apiece. Siggers was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 18 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
The victory got Mount Vernon back to even at 5-5. As for Savannah Country Day, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-6.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Savannah Country Day has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 162.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mount Vernon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 179.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Savannah Country Day didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Mount Vernon in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 23-17 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Mustangs' Bristan Derocher, who rushed for 173 yards while picking up 10.2 yards per carry, and also threw for 161 yards and one TD. Now that he won't be playing on the 14th, will it be easier for the Hornets to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
