Basketball Recap: Duluth Takes a Loss

If Duluth was feeling good fresh off their 67-28 takedown of Mountain View on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Wildcats were outmatched by the Lanier Longhorns and fell 69-42. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Longhorns from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Duluth saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Za'Ni Carter went 7-for-13 on her way to 19 points and eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Carter has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Saniya Johnson, who posted 13 points.

Lanier got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Aliyah Gillespie out in front who had 20 points along with five assists and five steals. Michelle Ezumah was another key player, dropping a double-double with 18 points and 14 boards.

Duluth's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Lanier, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Duluth has already played their next game (against Greater Atlanta Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lanier, they have also already played their next contest, a 62-48 defeat against New Manchester on the 24th.
