Big North - Independence recap October 8, 2013
Ramapo added to the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating Northern Highlands, 44-33. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
West Milford lost to Weequahic 38-2 last week, the largest margin of any game. Dylan Walko threw for 36 yards and ran for 41 yards in the defeat.
Ramapo's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Dougherty threw for 331 and 5 touchdowns and Matt Giacose had 91 yards receiving. On the ground Giacose chipped in 53 yards. John Goldschrafe helped Ramapo's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 93 yards.
Giacose was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 53 yards on 12 carries as Drew Gibbs' team topped the Highlanders. Chris Gordon also contributed to the rushing game with 29 yards on the ground.
Ramapo's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Raiders feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Dougherty has thrown for 1,002 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Goldschrafe has 19 catches for 363 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Pascack Valley takes on Passaic Valley. The Indians are in third place, while the Hornets are in second place.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Pascack Valley takes on Passaic Valley. Craig Nielsen's team has allowed 51 points this season, while Bill Johnson's team has given up 65. The Indians allowed 23 points last week as they lost to DePaul.
