The Rock Creek Academy Lions had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They came out on top against Southwestern by a score of 72-60. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Rock Creek Academy found their leader in underclassman Kelis Dansby, who scored 21 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. jayli smith was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with 12 rebounds.
Southwestern's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chloey Leach, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Leach scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Simpson, who scored 15 points along with six assists and six steals.
Rock Creek Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Southwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Creek Academy will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Eastern at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. As for Southwestern, they will challenge Providence at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Providence focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Thursday.
