St. Ignatius College Preparatory will bounce into Saturday's match after beating Archbishop Mitty, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Wildcats came out on top against the Monarchs by a score of 5-2 on Friday.
Eddie McCartney and Spencer Guido dominated on the mound. McCartney tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Guido tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. McCartney has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Archer Horn was excellent, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Ryan Rosenthal, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, Junipero Serra has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.57 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Friday. They came up short against Valley Christian, falling 10-4.
Tyler Harrison made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
St. Ignatius College Preparatory pushed their record up to 8-2-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Junipero Serra, their loss dropped their record down to 12-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. St. Ignatius College Preparatory hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Junipero Serra struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
