The Broughton Capitals were the 36-28 winner over the Leesville Road Pride when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Broughton fell 50-38 to Leesville Road on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Broughton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 301st, while Leesville Road is ranked 91st).
When it comes to explaining why Broughton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kalajah Wright. Despite the final result, she scored 20 points along with six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wright has scored all season. Kyra Gustus was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five steals.
Leesville Road found their leader in underclassman Chloe Fulk, who scored 16 points along with three steals and two blocks. That's the first time this season that Fulk posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Peyton Moye, who scored eight points.
Broughton's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Leesville Road, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broughton will take on Sanderson at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Sanderson is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. As for Leesville Road, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Cardinal Gibbons at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Cardinal Gibbons focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
