The Pulaski County Maroons will take on the Model Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Model took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pulaski County, who comes in off a win.
On Tuesday, Pulaski County had just enough and edged out East Jessamine 5-3. That looming 5-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Maroons yet this season.
Dawson Branscum spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Ben Gaskin was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Farmer, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Model was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss dating back to last season. They fell 3-0 to Berea.
Model saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kayden Wade, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Wade is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Pulaski County's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs across that stretch. As for Model, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pulaski County has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Model struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Pulaski County's way against Model in their previous meeting back in April of 2018, as Pulaski County made off with an 11-1 win. Does Pulaski County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Model turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
